YOUth ACTion
What went down at
YOUth ACTion'22?
In collaboration with MAE Special Projects Club , YOUth ACTion was a one day event filled with lots of exciting activities for our service users, with an overarching theme of engineering and technology.
Games surrounding technology were planned by our team of volunteers, such as AI Tic Tac Toe, Robot Racing and many more! We hoped these games would serve as an opportunity for the service users to be exposed to the field of robotics, allowing them to gain more knowledge beyond what they learn in classrooms. The service users also got to take part in a workshop organised by MAE SP, where they got a first hand experience in building their own cars using Lego and solar panels.
Through this event, it provided a fun and unique experience for our volunteers and service users, whilst at the same time, fostering stronger rapports between the service users and our volunteers. It definitely served a golden opportunity to learn more valuable skills beyond the 4 walls of the classroom!
Car Building Workshop
A workshop organised by MAE Special Projects Club, it allowed the service users to have
hands on experience in an immersive solar panel car building session.
Here, they learnt more about solar energy as well as alternative energy sources
that allows a car to move. After the mini lesson conducted by the instructors from MAE SP,
the service users got to build their own cars with Lego bricks
and solar panel, which they got to bring home as a memento. They also got a chance to test
out how their design of cars affects the speed of the car they built on a ramp.
Treasure Hunt and AI Tic-Tac-Toe
The first two of a series of mini games planned by our own Youth Volunteers,
the service users got to solve numerous puzzles with their team
to earn clues to guess the right word of 'Autonomous Vehicle' during a game of Treasure Hunt.
In AI Tic-Tac-Toe, the service users got to play Tic-Tac-Toe against
the computer, allowing them to learn first hand how computers and
technology are getting more smart over time.
Robot Jenga and Robot Racing
In Robot Jenga and Robot Racing, the service users got to
use technological devices to control the robots in playing Jenga
as well as go through a race track. Through these 2 games, they got to learn how to toggle around
with technological devices, creating new valuable memories!
Special shoutout to One Arena, which made these 2 games possible!
HUMANS OF YOUTH
ISAAC
The YOUth ACTion event provided a platform to engage the youths through hands-on activities such as the robot racing and jenga. It was thoroughly fulfilling to see the smile on their faces.
BRENNICK
Interacting with the youths gave me a more fresh and different perspective on life!
MAAX
The opportunity to interact and bond with different people made YOUth ACTion so much more memorable and pleasant.
YING XUAN
Compared to online volunteering sessions, it was much more exciting to play with the kids in-person! The kids all pumped up and excited to win points :D Their enthusiasm was infectious and it always amazes me that children find so much joy even in a simple game of tic-tac-toe!)
DHAARINI
it was a new experience for me as i usually don’t get to interact with youths around that age group in my usual sessions so it was pretty cool to connect with them! it was also really fun to do non-academic activities with them :-)
HUI RU
What made this experience different was that we were able meet them physically and play games together!!
It was fun getting to know them too :-)
